Baby L

Two weekends ago I went to a shower for Sean’s cousin, Jenny.  Jenny is also having a boy.  Sean’s dad’s family has a distinct pattern for at least the last two generations.  His dad is from a family of mostly boys, 5 boys and 1 girl.  These six went on to have mostly girls.  I don’t have the exact numbers, but I think it’s something along the lines of 80% girls.  Of those that have had children (or are expecting like Jenny and me), they’re almost all boys!  Am I right?  Maybe one girl?  Someone correct me.  And I don’t mean just two boys, I mean eight or nine boys (I think).  This is really poor journalism right here with my lack of fact checking before hitting publish.  Even with my lack of fact checked data there is definitely distinct generations of mostly boys, mostly girls, mostly boys, and I find this very interesting.

But back to Jenny and her shower.  Jenny’s parents and sister live in Virginia about an hour south of Sean and me.  There are a smattering of other family members on the East Coast, but most a decent drive or plane ride away.  I went thinking I would be the only family representative (aside from Jenny’s mom and sister, of course) but I was pleasantly surprised!  I was in good company!

How cute is this fruit display!

I had a nice long chat about motherhood with one of Sean’s aunts and a cousin, and it was really nice.  A really nice moment of how much motherhood changes you and how special an experience it is mixed with the perfect kind of advice.  Sure, read some stuff (but be careful of the internet and all of those crazy anonymous opinions) but do what feels right for you.  Try not to get too caught up in what this person is doing or that person is doing because you, your baby, and your family are not the same as that person over there.  They are living their best life and doing their best job and you need to live your best life and do your best job for your loved ones.  I’ve been told this before (it’s good advice period, babies or no babies), but there was something really lovely about this particular conversation.  I’m glad I had it.

I loved this favor.  Can you tell it’s a tiny bottle of champagne and chocolate to enjoy once Baby L arrives?  Such a good idea.

Can’t wait to meet you, Baby L!
