The other Friday Sean came home from work and said, “can we please go out to dinner?” He’d had a rough week and we really like going out to dinner but don’t as often anymore with Wes. It takes lots of coordination and finding a baby sitter. “Okay,” I said. “But if we’re going to do this we have to leave right now.” It was 4:30 p.m. Wes’s bedtime routine starts at 6:30 p.m. I’m not willing to mess with our bedtime routine.
As you would imagine at 4:30 p.m. on a Friday, we were the first ones there. While the witching hour is getting better, this is just not really Wes’s best time of day. He did okay.
The car seat toy didn’t last as long as we’d hoped/he didn’t fall asleep for his pre-bedtime cat nap.
But we managed and everyone had a nice time. Wes pounded his little hands on the table and played with Sophie (I wasn’t kidding when I said that life was better with Sophie) and Sean and I somehow managed to eat dinner mostly at the same time while passing a baby back and forth.
We’ve since tried one other 4:30 p.m. dinner. That time he slept! It’s a little ridiculous to eat dinner at 4:30 p.m., but I’ll take it, and those early bird specials, if it means we can go out without getting a babysitter and messing with bed time!
